Jasper Flake Tool.
This artifact is a light and dark brown colored jasper flake tool.
The edges are still sharp as well as the two lower corners. The ventral surface
shows the original worn surface (cortex) that this piece was chipped from.
The dorsal surface is one smooth continues fracture. Flake tools
were commonly used for cutting meat and animal hides as well as other
common materials. This unusual and hard to find artifact is an
example of a Mousterian artifact from the Italian region of Europe. It measures
23mm by 20mm. It was discovered at a site near Gargano (Puglia),
Italy. This
piece dates to the Neanderthals in the Italian region of Europe about
100,000 to 50,000 B.C.

This artifact is a mottled light yellow-tan colored jasper flake tool.
The left edge is still very sharp. The right side is flat and
about perpendicular to the ventral surface. The ventral surface
shows the bulb of percussion.
The dorsal surface shows 3 main flake scars. Flake tools
were commonly used for cutting meat and animal hides as well as other
common materials. This unusual and hard to find artifact is an
example of a Mousterian artifact from the Italian region of Europe. It measures

layers and lines.

shows a chip which may indicate its usage in Mousterian times.

The top left side corner looks to have been intentional shaped as a
borer as indicated by the chipping pattern. The lower dark area is

colors.
The edges are still sharp. The ventral surface has a few minor
retouches. This artifact was made via the Levallois technique as
evident by the very nice flake scaring pattern on the dorsal surface.
The dorsal surface was the retouched on the top and right top
edge. There is a bit of the original cortex left on the lower
right side. Flake tools

have been heavily retouched. The ventral surface
shows a bulb of percussion. The dorsal surface shows a number of
flake scars. This artifact was made via the Levallois technique as evident by the
flake scaring pattern on the dorsal surface. The bottom edge show
flake scars as well. A large flake was removed in ancient time on
the top right side. Flake tools
were commonly used for cutting meat and animal hides as well as other
